UNIT ONE: Learning about the middle-level leaders’ course in leading learning
Welcome to the Building Learning Foundations middle-level leaders’ course in leading learning. The school middle-level leaders are the people who assist the senior leader, the Head Teacher, in leading learning for school’s primary section
At the end of this unit you will have a good understanding of what this course is about and the different things that you will do as you study over the next four months and apply your learning, hopefully, for much longer.
UNIT TWO: Clarifying roles and duties of the middle-level leader

In this unit you will learn more about your roles and duties as the school middle-level leader known as Responsables.
Also, you will agree with your headteacher on a ‘working job description’ and the required work relationship with your headteacher.
UNIT THREE: Reviewing and helping to implement the School Improvement Plan
Congratulations on finishing Unit 2. Welcome to this third unit. In this unit you will learn more about school improvement planning and the School Improvement Plan
At the end of this unit you will have a good understanding of school improvement planning. You will also have some ideas of how you can assist the Head Teacher to develop, guide and monitor the implementation of the plan.

UNIT FOUR: Working with others to improve learning and teaching - Classroom visits and observations
Congratulations on finishing Unit 3. Welcome to Unit 4. In this unit you will learn more about working with others to improve learning and teaching through class visits and observations.
At the end of this unit you will have a good understanding of the purposes of visits and observations and some of the tools and skills that are essential to making them a success.
UNIT FIVE: Working with others to improve learning and teaching - Issues of safeguarding, child protection, inclusive education and remediation activities
You are now half-way through the BLF course for middle-level leaders of learning. Welcome to Unit 5. In this unit you will learn more about working with others to improve safeguarding, child protection and inclusive education in your school. These topics are important for all teachers to know about as we are all responsible for ensuring that pupils, and teachers, are safe and all pupils fully participate in school activities.
At the end of this unit you will have a good understanding of the issues of safeguarding, child protection and inclusive education and some very practical ideas on how to promote them in your school.
UNIT SIX: Coaching colleagues
Congratulations on finishing Unit 5. Welcome to Unit 6. In this unit you will learn more about one of the CPD activities - coaching colleagues to improve learning and teaching in the school.
At the end of this unit you will have a good understanding of the process of coaching and have developed and practiced some of the skills that are essential to making coaching a success.
UNIT SEVEN: Assessing learning and teaching to improve classroom and school practice
Congratulations on finishing Unit 6. Welcome to Unit 7. In this unit you will learn more about assessment in the life of a school and how to use it to bring about changes in classroom and school practice.
At the end of this unit you will have a good understanding of some key processes involved in assessment. You will have developed and practiced a variety of approaches, which can assist to address issues identified during assessment.
UNIT EIGHT: Completing the course and getting ready for the professional conversation
Congratulations on finishing Unit 7. The end of this course is almost here! Welcome to Unit 8. In this unit you will learn how to prepare your work and yourself for the professional conversation with the Local Leader of Learning and undertake the professional conversation.
Towards the end of this unit you will undertake a professional conversation with the Local Leader of Learning( or a neighbouring LLL if your Head Teacher is the LLL) that will highlight your learning achievements and make it clear how you have applied this learning in your practice as a middle-level leader of learning in the school. This professional conversation will lead to the award of a successful course completion certificate.
