In competence based curriculum, ICT is used as tool reason why it must be integrated in the teaching and learning process as i have mentioned in the following points:

1. Apply science and technology skills to solve practical problems encountered in everyday life including efficient and effective performance of a given task.
2. Develop a sense of curiosity, inquisitiveness and research to explain theories, hypotheses and natural phenomena.
3. Reason deductively and inductively in a logical manner.
4. Use and experiment with a range of objects and tools of science and technology and draw appropriate conclusions.

using ict tools will deliver new competence based curriculum because first of all both teachers and students will be motivated. the teacher is not going to get tired  by writing on the blackboard using chalk because he/she will be using digital contents and projector, students will involve alots in their learning activities because they will be doing their own research

As we become increasingly supported by ICT, teaching and learning will not be the same as before.

1.We will have to make use of the rich and exciting opportunities offered by the new technologies in education to reach our training goal and mission. 2. Learners will have more responsibilities of their own learning as they seek out, find, synthesize, and share their knowledge with others. 3. ICT provides powerful tools to support the shift from teacher centred to learner centred paradigm and new roles of teacher, learner, curricula and new media. 4. ICTs are seen as important tools to enable and support the move from traditional ' teacher-centric' teaching styles to more 'learner-centric' methods. 5. ICTs can be used to support change and to support/extend existing teaching practices.6. Pedagogical practices of teachers using ICT can range from only small enhancements of  Technology and teacher professional development in its use are best introduced in the context of broader educational reform which embraces a shift away from teacher-centred, lecture oriented towards learner centred, interactive and constructive learning environment. 7. Multimedia and ICT can play the role of catalyst for such educational reforms. Multimedia courseware can promote effective instruction that is more engaging; learner centred, interdisciplinary and more closely related to real life events and processes and adaptive to individual learning styles and needs. 8. It also encourages higher order thinking skills and help to construct knowledge socially. 9. Thus teacher professional development in the use of interactive technology should embody and model the forms of pedagogy that teacher can use themselves in their classroom.

How you would implement the spirit of the policies at both national level and in your own classroom

  • Developing ICT Infrastructure: is the scalable ICT infrastructure, broadband and user support required to transform our schools into “Smart Schools”
  • Creating Devices: student and teacher devices with appropriate education software
  • Develop Education leadership and teachers’ capacity and capability in and through ICT
  • Leadership Development: Leadership development in the ministry and among school leaders that helps, leads, supports and encourages the regular use of ICT in schools and classrooms.
  • Teacher preparation and development: Teachers remain key to the successful integration of ICT in education.
  • Higher education, research and innovation: higher education is critical to spark an innovation economy to transform Rwanda and ICT are seen as a key ingredient and catalyst.
  • Connectivity: A broadband network will interconnect high-speed research and education institutions as well as connect them to the internet at a promotional education rate

Discuss how using ICT tools will deliver new competence based curriculum

Development and acquisition of digital content, aligned with the curriculum and that focuses on project and activity-based learning and is fully integrated with the use of ICT, along with the associated formative assessments. This will require the acquisition of a content distribution platform and eventual shift from print to digital content as infrastructure is deployed in schools. REB will brief publishers on the new curriculum to develop e-textbooks in line with the new curriculum and adapt local and international content to complement/ supplement the core e-textbooks. Digital content has advantages of reducing costs of printing, distribution, replacement due to wear and tear and enriching the learning experience.
