Guiding information 5.1 : Clarifying some of the terms
Please read through the following boxes that explain two of the terms we are using in this unit:
Safeguarding is the responsibility of organisations (such as schools) to make sure their staff, operations and programmes do no harm to children and vulnerable adults, or expose them to abuse or exploitation, and includes protecting staff from inappropriate behaviour such as bullying and harassment. |
Child Protection refers to the procedures - usually prescribed (laid down) - followed by adults to protect an individual child who has been harmed or who is at risk of harm and is usually reactive, and includes referrals to the applicable authorities, intervention by appropriate agencies and continuous support for the child, as required to ensure their safety. Child protection is part of safeguarding. |
