As Rwandan schools adopt new digital technologies it makes sense to also automate much of the school administration. The skills you learn here will help you support digital administration in the future.
The Importance of School Records
60 Minutes
In this digital age we now have access to data which was not possible before. This includes data about students and their learning habits, performance and test scores. One of the best way to process all this data about individuals and their educational progress is to use a school management system. This is a software platform that captures the data and provides us with tools to analyze the data. It also provides a number of services such as reporting and timetable making. There are a few that are open source that means have no direct costs, they are free. If your school does not already have one then it’s worth evaluating the two we have here and considering if there is a place in school for such a platform.
You are encouraged to access and do some readings on different school administration packages that outline the merits of such systems. You are encouraged to investigate a few open source platforms that can be used free of charge. In your groups discuss the merits of such software in a forum. You will need to moderate the discussion.
Now let us discuss the importance of ICT in school and demonstration on various ICT tools used for school and class administration in the following areas:
- Recording and processing data
- Storing and sharing information with others
- Capture and store data for informing data-driven decision making
- Improve methods of accountability and reporting.
