UNIT 3: Summary

UNIT 3: Behaviour Management - Active Citizenship, School and Parent Engagement

SumSummary

In this unit we have talked about Active Citizenship and School and Parent Engagement.  We learned that Circle Meetings are an effective tool for encouraging active participation and valuing the contribution of every learner in the classroom. We looked at how to set up a Circle Meeting and suggested appropriate topics for discussion.

We also discussed Parent-Teacher Meetings and the importance of planning regular communication with parents. We outlined the steps to take in order to have a successful Parent-Teacher Meeting.

In addition, we learned about Restorative Approaches to Conflict Resolution and how to hold a restorative meeting. Restorative meetings and conversations build learners’ personal responsibility and their empathy for others. These approaches add to a peaceful and harmonious school, and wider community, as they allow everyone to be heard and to contribute to solving and resolving issues.

We look forward to hearing about your Circle Meetings, Parent-Teacher Meetings and Restorative Meetings, and learning from your experiences with these ways of promoting active citizenship and school and parent engagement.
