Creating a Shared ICT Vision for Your School

Sub-unit Competency: National ICT in Education Priorities and Developing A Shared School ICT in Education Vision
What are the national priorities when it comes to ICT in schools and is your school moving in this direction? Also is everyone within the school community on board with the adoption of ICT into teaching and learning and school administration?
In this sub-unit we will review the Rwanda ICT in Education Policy (2016) to ascertain what the Ministry of Education has in mind for ICT and your school as well as consider a process to construct a 'shared' ICT in education vision for the school. Also what ARE the potential benefits of using technology for students, teachers, administration, parents, management and the wider community.
Activity 3: National ICT in Education Priorities
Before we get started let us establish what are the Rwanda national priorities in terms of ICT in Education?
- Access the Rwanda ICT in Education Policy (2016) below.
- Read and reflect on the policy objectives, p.5-6. Take particular note of Objective 3 which mentions 'school leaders' specifically. What role are you expected to take? Then review p10-15 and determine where you, as a school leader, are expected to make a contribution to implementing the policy.

Activity 5: Developing a shared School ICT vision

- Read and reflect on the process described on p54-59.

- We use the forum below, entitled 'Vision Creation Simulation, to work together as a class and simulate the discussions you might experience when you try this at your school. We will pay particular attention to identifying 'destination', 'purpose' and 'core values' as discussed on p.59
- Finally see if you can draft a vision statement and then look at examples generated by others in the class and provide feedback.
