School Leadership and ICT in East Africa

Sub-unit Competency
The purpose of this sub-unit is to give principals/headmasters, school deputies and head teachers background on what role head teachers need to play in planning, procuring and maintaining School ICT systems. We will look at some East African examples of what head teachers are doing in this reguard.
Activity 1: Readings on African Leadership, Digital School Leadership and ICT issues in East Africa
The first video, a TED talk by Fred Swaniker, looks at how leadership at national and grassroots levels can transform Africa while Rotich's video looks at Kenya and issues on the adoption of ICT specifically in Kenya. Narrowing the focus to ICT in School Leadership specifically, Seddon and Pellissier's practical article introduces a new role school leaders need to play when ICT is introduced to a school. Activity 2: Leadership Challenges in Rwanda
Rwanda is no different. Local headmasters and principals are already grappling with ICT in School Leadership issues. Watch the interview below.
Reflecting on what you learned in the resources above and considering your own experiences identify the leadership challenges within your school and the role you anticipate for ICT.
