This module aims to give you the necessary basic skills and abilities to teach learners with visual difficulties. It includes topics on how to adapt teaching and learning environment to cater the diverse needs of learners with visual difficulties. You will learn about the eye and the related visual disabilities, including their causes in the first unit. The second unit is about the methods and approaches used in the teaching of learners with visual impairment. The third unit is about orientation and mobility, one of the skill areas in which a learner with visual impairment should have mastery in order to overcome the barriers they encounter in daily life.

This module aims at introducing the trainee to the Advanced Braille. Unit 1 is an introduction to Advanced English Braille. It also intends to inform the trainee about the importance of using Advanced English Braille. This Advanced English braille system is a result of combining codes from the existing braille systems. These systems include Standard English Braille (SEB), Braille mathematics notation, English Braille American Edition (Literary Braille), Nemeth Braille Code for mathematics and science and Braille Science. The Music Braille Code has been excluded from the new system. The module contains the following units: Introduction to advanced English braille, Grade 2 English braille, advanced mathematical signs, Advanced tactile drawings and Advanced braille signs and symbols. Each of these units elaborates the indicated contents and provides practice exercises for you.

This module aims at introducing teacher trainees to effective and efficient classes/schools practice where learners with visual difficulties are taught. They will be introduced to Braille and Braille equipment; Braille alphabet and punctuation marks; Numbers and Basic mathematical operation signs in Braille; Simple upper word signs and abbreviations; Basic tactile drawings; Braille document layout.
