UNIT 8: Gender

In this unit we have talked about how to create more gender-responsive classrooms so that we teach and assess our learners more equitably so that no learner is disadvantaged. This unit encourages us to think about what we can do as teachers to contribute to greater equality and equity for all learners. 

As teachers we have a responsibility to think about our ‘unconscious bias’ - our attitudes that are formed from our own experiences through life so far. We can use some conscious strategies like the ones in this unit, to develop our own attitudes and, more importantly,  we can also listen carefully to our learners when they ask questions or give us ideas that are about gender bias.
