Assessment

Assessment at the University of Rwanda, particularly at the College of Education, is a crucial aspect of higher education. The university views and applies both summative and formative assessments to measure student achievement and progress. Summative assessment involves evaluating student learning at the end of an instructional unit, while formative assessment focuses on providing ongoing feedback to improve learning during the instructional process[1]. These assessments are administered following guidelines provided by the Rwandan Higher Education Council to ensure academic standards are met[1].

Research indicates that assessment plays a significant role in shaping what and how students learn. Assessments that are intentionally designed to promote learning can lead to more complex and meaningful learning outcomes[2]. The University of Rwanda has established guidelines on assessment, examination moderation, and conflict prevention to ensure fairness and consistency in evaluating student work[3].

The University of Rwanda is committed to graduating the next generation of leaders dedicated to building a more just and sustainable world. Through its various colleges like the College of Arts and Social Sciences, College of Business and Economics, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, among others, the institution aims to provide high-quality education that prepares students for lives of service, leadership, and solutions[4]. This national institution plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of higher education in Rwanda and is poised to become a leading university in Africa[4].
