14. The OpenupEd portal and its courses

View

The OpenupEd portal courses are self-paced, which means the learner can enrol and start learning anytime. Certificate/statement of participation is provided to any learner who completed a course free of charge within a couple of hours after the course completion. Courses listed on the OpenupEd portal are hosted on platform of offering institutions. So, the OpenupEd portal seems to serve the purpose of making discoverability of the courses easier by publishing a comprehensive collection of open courses (MOOCs) offered by partner institutions. This increases the visibility of those courses and their offering university.

The content in most of the courses on OpenupED was released under an open licence, which grant permission to legally download it, adapted it, reuse it and share it with others. In other words, these courses are also open educational resources. For instance, most of the content in Digital Literacy for Online learning was adapted by VVOB staff from two courses hosted on the UK Open University’s OpenLearn platform that were listed on the OpenupEd portal.
