6. Using social media and networking

Communication is one of the most important digital skills you need to succeed in online learning. Communication may include 1) keeping in touch with you eTutor using one or more of these communication media: email, instant messaging, video calls and social media (a WhatsApp or Facebook message, etc), 2) posting on forums to connect with your online learning communities (consisting of your peers or experts in the subject you are learning) and 3) communicating with administrative and teaching staff in your online course.

Social media is an important tool for communicating and creating (and sharing what you have created). ‘Creating’ is about using something digital that you have made, to express yourself or communicate with others. It could be words (for example, a text document) or media (for example, images or videos). If you are new to the world of social networking, you might wonder why you should get involved with it.
