4. Challenges eTutors need to overcome?
Misunderstanding of written messages may lead learners to diversion from the content and framing (insulting each other). As an eTutor, you should detect preliminary signs of framing and address the issue. If conflict has emerged, you take over. You may go through the following steps to avoid escalation of the conflict:
Step 1: caution the learner who triggered the conflict and even ban them from the group (the learning management system allows you to do so)
Step 2: Communicate to the learner who triggered the conflict and ask them the motive of their behaviour. You may realise that they are either underchallenged or overchallenged. In this case, you may remind them that peers may benefit from them or they may benefit from peers in group learning.
Step 3: If there are still difficulties or unsolvable challenges or problems, address them to the Course Leader.
Make sure you have the support of the offering organisation for any consequences/measures you suggest against the learners: for serious consequences/measures, never act on your own.
